Course Description
Biology is a year-long 5 credit courses. This Biology course is designed to provide information regarding the fundamental concepts of life and life processes. This course is a comprehensive study of molecular, cellular, and organismic biology. A key goal of the course is to give students an integrated insight into the modern scientific view of the world. This course includes such topics such as cell structure and function, general plant and animal physiology, genetics, and taxonomy. Classwork includes the study of basic structures and functions and energy requirements of living organisms at the cellular and system level, environmental studies with an emphasis on human impact on the environment, genetics, and evolution. The course emphasizes laboratory investigation (experiences in the laboratory, classroom, or the field that provides students with opportunities to interact directly with natural phenomena or with data collected by others using tools, materials, data collection techniques, and models (NRC 2006, p. 3)). Throughout the process, students design investigations, engage in scientific reasoning, manipulate equipment, record data, analyze results, and discuss their findings.
Course Outline
Unit 1- Nutrients, Energy and Biochemical Processes
Unit 2- Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems
Unit 3- Human Activity and Climate
Unit 4- Human Activity and Biodiversity

Course Description
Environmental Science is a year-long 5 credit course that examines the mutual relationships between organisms and their environment. The course allows students to become aware of the interrelationships among plants, animals, and humans. Students apply scientific concepts and principles of modern science to analyze environmental issues in topics such as ecology; humans and the environment; Earth’s resources and sustainability. Studies in Environmental Science include examining the role of private and governmental decisions involving the environment and engaging in evidence-based decision making in real world contexts. The Environmental Science course emphasizes laboratory investigation (experiences in the laboratory, classroom, or the field that provides students with opportunities to interact directly with natural phenomena or with data collected by others using tools, materials, data collection techniques, and models (NRC 2006, p. 3)). Throughout the process, students design investigations, engage in scientific reasoning, manipulate equipment, record data, analyze results, and discuss their findings.
