The Orange Township Public Schools' Department of Special Services (DSS) is charged with educating students who have learning disabilities or exceptional mental or physical needs. DSS provides service and support through the public school (charter and non charter) to all identified students from ages 3 through age 21 throughout District. The district specialists are responsible for accessing through Project Child Find, Intervention and Referral Services, Individualized Education Program process, and provide support/services to eligible students under the specific guidelines mandated by New Jersey Administrative Code Title 6A:14 and federal law, develop, monitor and provide both indirect and direct instruction on measurable goals/objectives that address the students identified area of need.The Department of Special Services also manages the Nurses, Guidance Counselors, Attendance Counselors, Substance Awareness Counselor, as well as, the Occupational, Physical, Music and Movement Therapists. The Orange Township Public Schools' DSS has approximately 900 identified Special Education students, and the Special Education Office conducts roughly 950 Individual Education Programs (IEPs) each year.
