    Course Description:

    United States History II –

    The United States History II course will examine American History from the American Civil War to present day (or as far as we make it).  The class will examine American origins and issues from Civil War and Reconstruction to present day America.  The class will combine several different styles, project based learning, cooperative learning, and the use of technology. 

     This is a required course and you must achieve a passing grade before you will be allowed to graduate from Orange High School.

     

    Course Objectives:

    • Master a broad body of knowledge
    • Demonstrate an understanding of historical chronology
    • Use historical data to support an argument or position
    • Interpret and apply data from original documents, including cartoons, graphs, letters, etc
    • Effectively use analytical skills of evaluation, cause and effect, compare and contrast
    • Work effectively with others to produce products (such as Powerpoint, SmartBoard presentations, review sheets for entire class), and solve problems.
    • Use modifications as stated in Individual Education Plan (IEP)

     

    Textbook: McGraw-Hill United Stated History and Geography

     

    Required Supplies:

    Computer / SmartBoard knowledge

    Notebook, pen, pencil, highlighter

    Maps

    Note: It is mandatory that each student have their textbook and notes in class every day.

    Note: Parents/Guardians &  administrators will have the right to look at the students’ notebooks at any time.

     

    Grading Policy:

    Grades will be based on the completion and performance on all class assignments, tests, quizzes, participation,  homework, and projects.

    Homework:

    Received Daily – I will always give you time to start it

    Projects:

    Multiple throughout the year.  All Materials will be provided

    Test:

                  Advanced announcement.  Will receive copy of notes and detailed study guide

     

    Make-Up Policy:

    Missing assignments – All students will receive make up work (missed assignments) the last 2 weeks of marking period.

    • On Time (before bell)
    • With Tools (Text, Notebook, Pen/Pencil)
    • On Task (working at all times-do now & exit ticket)
    • In Seat
    • With Respect (for self and others)

     

    Academic Dishonesty Policy:

    Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated.  If cheating is suspected and automatic zero will be given for the assignment.

     

    Requirements to Receive Credit:

    Students must demonstrate proficiency in the course material along with being compliant in attendance
