Welcome to the Extended Learning Resource Page. This page was created to provide students working from home with access to assignments, links, assessments, and practice resources. .

Monday, 3/23/20

5th Grade: Read pages 14-17 in the PDF of Promises to Keep. Complete the Gist & Vocab organizer. Then, complete the main idea organizer, coming up with a main idea, evidence, and forming the information into a paragraph. Exit ticket: Leave a comment: Pick an image from pages 14-17 that captures the gist of this section. Describe it using concrete language. Then, explain why this image matches the main ideas of the section. 

6th Grade: Read pages 40-52 in Dragonwings. You can use the link to the audio book attached to this assignment to help you. When you finish, complete the guided reading questions. For your exit ticket, answer the following question: When stopping on page 52, the reader is halfway through Wind Rider’s story. Predict how the story will end. 

Tuesday, 3/24/20

5th Grade: Read pages 18-21. Complete the summarizing tool. Then, complete the organizer comparing and contrasting Jackie and Rachel. After completing the organizer, put your information together to form two paragraphs, one comparing and one contrasting the two individuals. For your exit ticket, leave a comment: Who is more similar to you, Jackie or Rachel. Explain your answer. 

6th Grade: Read pages 53-62 in Dragonwings. You can use the link to the audio book attached to this assignment to help you. When you finish, complete the guided reading questions. Then, write a summary of chapter 3. Be sure to include details from the entire chapter. For your exit ticket, answer the following question: Do you think Moon Shadow should believe Wind Rider’s story? Why or why not? 

Wednesday, 3/25/20

5th Grade: Read pages 22-25. Use the read aloud audio to help you. Then complete the organizer by writing down what you notice, what you wonder, and important facts. After completing each section of the organizers, create a summarizing paragraph. After that, take some time to read and analyze the timeline. For your exit ticket, leave a comment explaining one big change that has happened in the text so far. 

6th Grade. Reread pages 41-43 and 60-61. Use the point of view organizer to analyze how Moon Shadow’s point of view on his father has changed. Then read the theme lesson and complete the theme organizer. Afterwards, watch the theme video attached to the lesson to further your understanding of theme. For your exit ticket, write a comment where you state a theme that connects to both Bud, Not Buddy and Dragonwings. 

Thursday, 3/26/20

5th grade: Read pages 26-27. Then, complete the Branch Rickey bio organizer. After completing the organizer, use the information to create a paragraph explaining who Branch Rickey was. After that, complete the grammar mini-lesson and grammar organizer. For your exit ticket, add a comment where you write a sentence comparing or contrasting Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson. 

6th grade: Read pages 63-74. Then, focusing on pages 71-74, complete the text dependent questions. Make sure you answer in full sentences using evidence and the grammar concepts we have covered in class. For your exit ticket, rate your understanding of the organizer from 1 (very confused) to 5 (very confident). 

Friday, 3/27/30

5th grade: Review the information gathered from pages 6-27 of Promises to Keep. Then, respond to the essay prompt by writing a 4 paragraph essay. The planning tool is optional and can be used if you need some help. For your exit ticket, leave a comment with one strength and one struggle you had while writing your essay. 

6th grade: Review the information gathered from pages 1-74 of Dragonwings. Then, respond to the essay prompt by writing a 5 paragraph essay. The planning tool is optional and can be used if you need some help. For your exit ticket, leave a comment with one strength and one struggle you had while writing your essay.Today's Assignment

Grade 1

ELA (20 minutes): Student should go on i-Read for 20 minutes.  After students go on i-Read, they will read Dear Children Of The Earth. Students will answer the questions What happens when many people do a little thing? What does the earth want every person to STOP doing?. Students will write the answer down in their notebooks or on a piece of paper and take a picture of it and send it to me on dojo!

Fourth Grade ELA:
1. Read, "Revolutionary War, Part 1." Complete all activities in the Google Document.
2. Log onto Clever. Complete one assigned vocabulary activity for Revolutionary War Vocabulary Week One.

Tuesday, 3/17/20 

5th grade: Find the "Why sports history is American history" text on google classroom. Complete multiple choice and open ended responses. For your exit ticket, add a comment to this assignment summarizing the fact about Jackie that you found the most interesting.

6th grade: Find the "Chinese Immigration and the Chinese Exclusion Acts" text on google classroom. Complete multiple choice and open ended responses. Leave a comment on the assignment as your exit ticket. For your exit ticket, add a comment to this assignment summarizing the main ideas of the video.

Wednesday, 3/18/20

5th Grade: Read pages 6-9 in the PDF of Promises to Keep. Complete the Gist & Vocab organizer. Then, complete the timeline slideshow on Google slides. Leave a comment with the gist of your reading as your exit ticket: What is the overall gist of pages 6-9?

6th Grade: Reread Chapter 1 of Dragonwings. Then, complete the summarizing activity. After that, close read pages 15-16 of Dragonwings and complete the organizer. For your exit ticket, write a comment where you provide a quote to support the following claim: One theme in chapter 1 is that it's hard to fit in when you move to live within another culture.

Thursday, 3/19/20

5th Grade: Reread pages 6-9 in "Promises to Keep" and review the feedback from your organizer from yesterday's lesson. Complete the main idea organizer, coming up with a main idea, evidence, and forming the information into paragraphs.  After writing, read the grammar chart and complete the grammar activities. Leave exit ticket in comments: write a comment with three different sentences using three different verb tenses. 

6th Grade: 1. Read pages 19-29 in Dragonwings. Complete the summarizing organizer. Check over your work and create a summary paragraph. Close read pages 23-25. Then, complete the perspective and theme questions based on this section. Be sure to use evidence! Exit ticket: Leave a comment with another theme you identified in chapter 1-2

Friday, 3/20/20

5th Grade: Read pages 10-13 in the PDF of Promises to Keep. Complete the Gist & Vocab organizer. Then, complete the main idea organizer, coming up with a main idea, evidence, and forming the information into a paragraph. Exit ticket: Leave a comment: Pick an image from pages 10-13 that captures the gist of this section. Describe it using concrete language. Then, explain why this image matches the main ideas of the section. 

6th Grade: Read pages 30-39 in Dragonwings. Complete the character traits slideshow based on the information in this chapter about Moon Shadow’s family members. Choose your favorite character and write a short narrative about Moon Shadow learning from your character. You can use first or third person narration. Be sure to use dialogue. For your exit ticket, leave a comment with your favorite character’s name and one thing you like about him.
