    Dear Oakwood Avenue School Families:

It is hard to believe but it is school time again!!! I am thrilled to welcome you to another exciting and academically enriching school year.  I have the belief that by working together we will make this a very successful school year. It is very important that you play an active role in your child’s education.

At Oakwood Avenue Community School we value parent participation, volunteerism and feedback.  I encourage you to join the PTO and participate in as many activities and events as possible.  Also, mark your calendars for Back to School Night on Thursday, September 20, 2018.  This is an opportunity to meet all of your children’s teachers and learn about the exciting things students will be learning this year.  Listed below are a few important items for you to be made aware of:

    • The first day of school is Monday, September 10, 2018. Students will be dismissed at 3:00pm
    • Breakfast will be served from 7:45am-8:15am
    • Students in grades K-7 will line up in the courtyard with their teacher at 8:15am. Instruction will begin promptly at 8:30am
    • PreK students will enter and dismiss through the main entrance
    • Students arriving via school bus will enter and dismiss through the main entrance
    • Students must be in uniform
      • Grades K-4 (Navy blue pant/skirt and white button down or polo shirt)
      • Grades 5-7 (Khaki pants/skirt and white button down or polo shirt)

Unfortunately, and as much as we would like to, and most importantly for safety reasons we are unable to allow parents to enter the building and wait with their child or children until they are escorted to class.  We will have numerous teachers and support staff members on hand to safely monitor and direct all students.

I truly consider it an honor and privilege to work with the Oakwood Avenue Community School Family and look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

    Denise White,

    Genesis Parent/Student Portal

The Orange School District supports access by parents/guardians, teachers, students and administrators to informational resources that will improve participation in a child’s education and improve communication between students, parents/guardians and the student’s teachers.

The Orange School District manages student information electronically and will make the student education records available for viewing only to authorized parents/guardians and students with a secure connection over the Internet.  This service is offered to all current and active parents/guardians of students in the Orange School System.  Information accuracy is the joint responsibility between schools, parents/guardians, and students. Each school will make every attempt to ensure information is accurate and complete. If a parent/guardian discovers any inaccurate information, parent/guardian will notify their school immediately and provide proof of the inaccurate information.

Each parent/guardian/student must complete and sign a Parent/Student Portal Access Agreement before viewing student information. A School Official or staff designee must witness the parent/guardian sign this form. The parent/guardian must provide a photo ID or alternate legal document prior to signing. If a parent/guardian cannot visit the school, the parent/guardian must have the form certified by a notary public and mail the completed and signed form with the notary public seal and current date to their child’s school. The school will keep the completed and signed form in the cumulative record folder of each student.
Please contact your child’s guidance counselor for additional information.
