Orange Students Shine in Districtwide Poetry Out Loud Competition

On Thursday, January 11, 2024, Orange High School students competed in the district-level of the 2024 Poetry Out Loud competition, a national arts education program. The English Department at OHS has worked diligently over the past several weeks helping students prepare for the performance which requires each participant to recite poems from notable poets.
Students were judged on accuracy, physical presence, voice and articulation, interpretation, evidence of understanding, and overall performance. Mrs. Emily David, Mrs. Linda Denis, Dr. Gayle Griffin, and Dr. Terri Russo served as competition judges. Executive Director of Humanities, Ms. Karen Harris, served as score tabulator, and Mr. Daniel Strauss hosted the show.

Students Jorge Amastal, Mahder Begashaw, Terrence Benoit, and Tanasiah Shivers also recited poems in hopes of advancing to the regional level.
Job well done to all of our participants, and a special round of applause to Jennifer Inamagua as she prepares to represent Orange Public Schools at the Region 5-level competition on February 6th at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.
