OFFICE OF MATHEMATICS
The Office of Mathematics exists to provide the students it serves with a mathematical ‘lens’-- allowing them to better access the world with improved decisiveness, precision, and dexterity; facilities attained as students develop a broad and deep understanding of mathematical content. Achieving this goal defines our work - ensuring that students are exposed to excellence via a rigorous, standards-driven mathematics curriculum, knowledgeable and effective teachers, and policies that enhance and support learning.2019 - 2020 GOALS
Strengthen and align curriculum to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, ensuring that it is engaging, challenging, and consistently implemented.
Improve the quality of mathematics instructional programs in grades K-12; thereby maintaining the mutually reinforcing balance between procedural skill and fluency, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving.
Advance the use and management of assessment; understanding assessment (e.g. diagnostic, formative, summative, authentic) as a continuous thread of instructional practice, rather than a series of isolated events.
Create a highly effective professional development system for teachers and administrators that are more focused on delivering quality instruction and aligned to the learning needs of teachers and students.
Empower parents to be more effectively engaged in their child’s instruction through the creation of a highly-accessible, web-based system for parents and students that increases exposure to and the availability of the districts’ instructional resources.
