Innovation in Action: Orange Public Schools Takes Center Stage with Apple at the NJSBA Conference!

Orange Public Schools continue to lead the way in transforming teaching and learning through innovation, collaboration, and purposeful technology integration!

Our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Gerald Fitzhugh, II, had the distinct honor of presenting alongside the Apple Team during a panel discussion at the New Jersey School Boards Association Conference in Atlantic City.

Dr. Fitzhugh shared how Orange Public Schools continues to move beyond simply placing technology in the hands of students and educators. Our district remains intentional about creating meaningful learning experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving while ensuring that student and staff wellness remains at the forefront of our work.

Additionally, the discussion emphasized the importance of investing in continuous professional learning, empowering educators through instructional coaching, and establishing sustainable systems that allow innovative programming to flourish for years to come.

The Orange School District extends its sincere appreciation to the Apple Team for recognizing the innovative and transformative work taking place throughout our schools and for providing a platform to share our district’s journey with educational leaders from across New Jersey.

A special thank you to the Orange Board of Education Members (Board President Johnson, Board Members Sheriff, Armstrong, and Adams for their unwavering support, and presence during this important presentation. We also extend our appreciation to Mr. Jason Ballard, School Business Administrator, and Ms. Nancy Masoud, Executive Director of Human Resources, for their attendance and ongoing commitment to advancing the district’s vision.

DISTRICT | Dr. Fitzhugh Presents at New Jersey School Boards Association Conference:

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Orange Public Schools was proudly represented at the Atlantic City Convention Center as our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Gerald Fitzhugh, II, joined a distinguished panel of educational leaders during the keynote address delivered by Dr. Lily Laux, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Education.

Before a packed keynote theater, Commissioner Laux provided an insightful overview of the current state of education in New Jersey, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and priorities that will shape the future of teaching and learning across the Garden State.

As part of this important conversation, Commissioner Laux welcomed five superintendents representing school districts across New Jersey:

Dr. Gerald Fitzhugh, II, Orange Public Schools
Dr. Al Lewis, Glassboro Public School District
Mrs. Silvia Abbato, Union City School District
Dr. Jared J. Rumage, Red Bank Borough Public Schools
Mrs. Gwen Herman, Quinton Township School District

During the panel discussion, Dr. Fitzhugh highlighted the transformative work taking place throughout Orange Public Schools, particularly our continued expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways and the intentional alignment of educational programming with students' interests, aspirations, and postsecondary goals.

Additionally, Dr. Fitzhugh emphasized the critical importance of establishing strategic priorities that directly influence instructional practices, organizational decision-making, and measurable student outcomes. He shared insights into the district's newly launched five-year strategic plan, Optimal Success…Forward by Design 2026–2031, underscoring that meaningful strategic planning must be inclusive, collaborative, and grounded in the collective voices of all stakeholders.

Dr. Fitzhugh reinforced that a strategic plan should never be developed in isolation. Rather, students, families, educators, administrators, community members, and educational partners must all have a seat at the table. Their perspectives help ensure that the district's vision translates into purposeful action, innovative opportunities, and sustained academic success for every scholar.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Orange Board of Education President Ms. Shawneque Johnson, Vice President Dr. Fatimah Turner, and Board Members Sheriff, Wingfield, Armstrong, Chapman, and Adams for their presence and continued commitment to supporting the district's vision.

Special appreciation is also extended to Mayor Dwayne Warren, Esq., for his unwavering partnership and presence during this important statewide conversation.

We also recognize our School Business Administrator, Mr. Jason Ballard; Executive Director of Human Resources, Ms. Nancy Masoud; and our Manager of Security and School Safety for their attendance and support.

Celebrating the Arts, History, and the Incredible Talent of Orange!

The Orange Public School District proudly congratulates Ms. Avril Bogle, Art Specialist at Forest Street/Annex Community School, and our very own 9th Grade Scholar, Dacheler Evra, of Orange High School, who, alongside talented performers Nyatche’ Martha and Dan Nigro Jr., delivered an extraordinary performance of Made in Orange, presented through Luna Stage!

This weekend’s performance at The HUUB was nothing short of phenomenal!
