Orange Preparatory Academy of Inquiry & Innovation Welcomes Class of 2026 at Parent Orientation

ORANGE, NJThis week, Orange Preparatory Academy of Inquiry and Innovation (OPA I&I) proudly welcomed its incoming class of eighth-grade scholars and their families during a well-attended Parent Orientation. Held in two sessions on Tuesday, August 5th, the event drew hundreds of parents and students who gathered in the auditorium to meet the staff, hear from school leaders, and learn about the year ahead. As families signed in, they also completed on-site registration for their student technology devices provided through the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) program - a multi-year grant partnership that ensures every OPA I&I scholar is equipped with an internet-connected device for the school year.

Superintendent Dr. Gerald Fitzhugh, II, remarked on the strong turnout and significance: “I am so very pleased that our families showed up and out for Orange Preparatory Academy of Inquiry and Innovation's orientation. The eighth-grade academy is the bridge between middle school and secondary education. It's one of the most critical transitions in our student’s academic journey. Ensuring that both students and parents are informed is a priority that sets the tone for a strong school year.”

Families were introduced to key staff members and heard from OPA I&I Principal, Carrie Halstead, who set a clear and inspiring vision for the 2025 - 2026 school year. During her remarks, Principal Halstead shared the school’s guiding theme for this year, “We Are Ready,” emphasizing the staff’s unified commitment to academic excellence, student support, and strong family partnerships.

“This isn’t just a theme. It’s a reflection of who we are and how we show up for you - our students,” said Principal Halstead. “We are ready to teach, ready to achieve, and ready to support every scholar through this pivotal year.”

Throughout the orientation, families received detailed overviews of school policies, instructional expectations, and student supports. With an enrollment of 365 students, Orange Preparatory Academy of Inquiry and Innovation serves as the district’s dedicated eighth-grade academy, and is poised for a strong start this September with a full instructional team already in place.
