Physical Education 8
Physical Education is an important component in adolescent growth and development. Being a physically fit and active individual decreases the risk of illness and disease. It increases longevity, as well as, quality of life. Physical education class activities are designed to enhance individual physical skills and ability, encourage fitness and confidence while also developing critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills. In addition to the physical aspects, physical education class helps students develop healthy lifestyle choices.
Course Description – Students will have the opportunity to participate in an intensive program that –
Ø Advocates for the five components of fitness (cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition).
Ø Promotes the desire to maintain positive lifelong fitness practices including a regular exercise program and proper diet/nutrition.
Ø Strives to enhance interest in all sport and movement activities.
Ø Establishes a foundation for and develops an awareness of the importance of physical well-being.
Ø Directs students towards physical and mental growth, as well as, development of bodily skills, individual fitness, positive self-esteem, sportsmanship and a positive value system.
