Welcome Back!!!! My name is Jenelle Stokes and I will be your child's 5th/6th grade English Language Arts Teacher. I hope both you and your child shared an enjoyable summer together! This school year makes my sixteenth year of teaching! I grew up in Monmouth County, New Jersey. I completed my undergraduate degree in 2004 at Lincoln University, PA receiving a degree in Elementary Education. My love for learning continued to bloom and I completed my master's degree in 2008 at University of Phoenix, AZ with a degree in Curriculum and Instruction and specialization in English as a Second Language.

Through experience, both as a teacher and parent I have realized the impact that educators can have on the lives of their students. In order to maximize the learning experience it is my firm belief that communication is the key to a successful school year. You will have several ways to have effective dialogue with me throughout the school year. The number one form of communication will be email. It is my hope that consistent email will be the basis for a great deal of dialogue and communication. Listed below is my school email that I check several times a day.
Homework will be assigned daily. All assignments will be listed in class and on school wires . Students are required to write all assignments in their agenda. Homework will be a direct reflection of what was taught during the school day. Homework will be reviewed the next day in class. Students should read for a minimum of twenty minutes each night tracking their stamina. They should also complete one Reading Plus lesson daily for homework. Students should put forth their best effort in completing the assignment. Any questions concerning the homework should be addressed through email or directly in the agenda. Students who are absent will receive make-up work upon their return to school and will be given a deadline for completion.
In middle school, students will be experiencing new surroundings and new challenges. It is important to remember that all successes, big or small, are meaningful. Each child will progress at his or her own rate, developing skills when he or she is ready. Preserving each child’s self-esteem and building a secure, respectful foundation for growth will always remain priorities in our classroom .
