Orange High School and Orange Preparatory Academy Performing Arts Department Presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Orange, NJ – Orange High School and Orange Preparatory Academy students will present the lively stage production, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, as their annual musical performance. In a summary of the play, stageagent.com writes, "Charles Schulz’s beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner’s classic musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The whole gang is here: bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder who doesn’t give her the time of day, perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus, Snoopy is in the doghouse, and ‘blockhead,’ himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form. Brief vignettes span the months from Valentine’s Day to Beethoven Day, from wild optimism to utter despair.” The sweet, joyful innocence of the Peanuts gang is highlighted right here in Orange, as each audience will be entertained by the heartfelt songs, funny dialogue, and catchy orchestrations. “Whether you’re keen to fly with the Red Baron, moon over the Moonlight Sonata, or just do your best to find “Happiness,” You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown is a crowd-pleasing classic."
Performances are April 12th, 13th, 14th: Thursday and Friday at 7:00 pm and two Saturday shows with a 2:00 p.m. matinee and 7:00 p.m. final performance.
Ms. Dana Levin, the director, is excited about the opportunity to direct Clark Gesner’s, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Most recently, Ms. Levin directed the OHS/OPA production of The Complete History of America-Abridged. She has also previously directed The Odd Couple, The Wiz, Twelve Angry Men, Aida, Sherlock Holmes, Grease, The Great Gatsby, and Little Shop of Horrors. She also serves as the advisor of the OHS chapter of the International Thespian Society, as well as directing the OHS Drama Showcase. Ms. Levin states, “I’ve really enjoyed working with this talented cast and crew. Everyone has worked so hard and it will definitely be evident in the final production.”
Mr. Mike Seidel, Orange Preparatory Academy’s drama teacher, joins the OPA/OHS theater team once again as assistant director. Mr. Seidel has taught in five schools in Orange where he has had the pleasure of working with hundreds of talented K-9 students. He has directed and produced musicals such as Willy Wonka Jr., Treasure Island and his original play, Elfgood.
“Ms. Levin and Mr. Seidel have very high expectations of us that we try to meet,” said junior Tony Fernandez. He plays the part of Charlie Brown and is no stranger to the stage, having performed in a recent production of The Complete History of America-Abridged as Amerigo Vespucci, Hitler, and Conspiracy Guy. “This cast has become a family very quickly and hopefully that will be transparent on stage.”
