I am thrilled to be teaching first grade for the 2021-2022 school year. I cannot wait to meet all of you and begin our year together.
We are going to have fun becoming readers, writers, scientists, and good citizens in September. Until then, check out the summer assignments for rising first graders below.
- Complete iRead for 20 minutes 3 times a week. At the end of each unit students read a book and are given comprehension questions. Students should accomplish reading at least 3 comprehension books in the program by the end of the summer.
- Read one book independently per week. Write a response to one of the two questions below for each book. Choose the appropriate prompt based on the type of text read.
- Fiction: What problems did the characters have? How did the characters solve their problems? What did you learn?
- Non-fiction: What is the most important idea or part of the text? Explain why. What did you learn?
