He is a graduate of Kean University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Spanish. He also holds a Master of Arts degree from Kean's Nathan Weiss Graduate College in Union, NJ. His principal area of study was School Instruction and Curriculum, with a focus on Bilingual/Bicultural education. He recently completed a post-graduate, ESL certification program at Kean University which included advanced courses in Linguistics and 2nd Language Acquisition.
At Forest, Mr. Donnelly assists regularly with the MicroSociety program, school plays, concerts and cultural events. Notably, in 2018 he was the Assistant Producer of the Forest Street/NJPAC/Disney production of Cinderella Kids, and is now on board in the same capacity helping to create "The Lion King Kids." He is a member of the School Leadership Team (SLT), the Forest Parent-Teacher Group, and "Friends of Forest", a neighborhood-based parent group that supports our school. Mr. Donnelly also works closely with Forest's Community-school Site Coordinator, Mr. Ernesto Lorenzo, and Forest's Family Liaison, Ms. Angie Vallecillo, to support a variety of parent, charitable and community-involvement initiatives.
Prior to entering the Education field, Mr. Donnelly gained years of experience in the business world as a National Sales Manager and Marketing professional for a manufacturer of housing construction products. As he traveled the country conducting sales presentations, hosting at trade shows, training new sales people, and calculating the cost of production tooling/raw materials/labor to manufacture new products, he saw first-hand how very important it is to possess well-developed mathematics and communication skills.
Mr. Donnelly believes that everyone can learn a new language and everyone can learn to communicate successfully. He says that what is most important is to "be yourself and to feel comfortable with how you express yourself." He adds that everyone is still learning "Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening" every day and that with a little time and patience, we can all become great communicators and successful citizens.
Mr. Donnelly is married and resides in Parsippany, NJ with his wife Nancy (who is also a teacher) their two sons, Geoffrey and Jimmy, and their dog Pebbles.
