Girls Make Apps
Hi, Welcome to my Homepage. This is me with two incredibly talented and innovative tech students. Their names are Mary and Angie and, as some students never forget their teachers, I will never forget these two.
On October 15, 2016, Angie and Mary, 6th graders at Cleveland St School, committed themselves to an 8-week Computer Science program in New York City on Saturday mornings. They were a part of an exclusive group of middle school girls from the tri-state area who were learning how to make mobile apps. All of the girls worked in teams to design an app that would be of good service. "Team Margie" (Mary and Angie) chose to design a bilingual vocabulary game for young English Learners who would adjust easier in their classroom by learning words and phrases frequently used by the teacher and their classmates. All teams had to present their app to a panel of judges. The Top 3 Teams received prizes, and there was a Popularity prize for the app with the most downloads.
Mary and Angie won the Popularity prize for the most downloads. Their app, Flipperty Match, won Second Place. Both contests were major accomplishments based on their degree of difficulty. Both girls received the Echo Dot 2nd Generation and an Arduino App Starter Kit.
You can learn more about their app and view photos under the Girls Make Apps subtitle on left.
