Remote Instruction: Week 1Posted by Danie Strauss on 3/16/2020 7:00:00 AM
Other than our half-day on Monday, this could be considered our first week of Emergency Remote Instruction. Please stay diligent and engaged. Assignments for the week are posted. I have already received some high-quality work from students, which is great.
Since we can't really meet in small groups the way we are accustomed to on Tuesday and Thursday, please work on Reading Plus (5 per week total) and respond to any feedback I may post about your Quick Writes, including requests to revise them.
I will be available tomorrow during my office hours; please contact me via e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org or Remind (@6k8gafc) with any questions, concerns or ideas.
* Office hours are 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m; 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. as posted on my Home Page
** There will be a short Reading Quiz on Thursday. This will be due by 3:00 p.m. for all classes.
School Closings and Remote InstructionPosted by Danie Strauss on 3/11/2020
In response to the potential that Orange Preparatory Academy may close due to the COVID-19 crisis, I am establishing a system so that instruction can continue.
1) Students should log into Google Classroom daily for updates on new assignments and resources. If you have forgotten or do not have access to your classroom code, here is a link to the codes for all current ELA-9 classes taught by me. All assignments issued during a time when schools have been closed will be under the heading "Remote Instruction" under "Classwork." It will remain at the top of the Google Classroom page until further notice.
2) Students will be able to log into Reading Plus by using Clever through the link provided here or in the sidebar menu of this homepage ("Reading Plus"). The expectation is still five (5) lessons per week.
3) Additional news, updates, and information regarding remote projects and assessments will be provided here in the "News" section of this homepage.
That's three things to stay on top of: Google Classroom, Reading Plus, and this News section. I am confident we can do this! Remember, Google Classroom should be checked at least once daily and students should be completing five (5) Reading Plus lessons per week. Grades will continue to be updated through Genesis.
IMPORTANT: More than ever, it is crucial that assignments be completed in a timely fashion so that we can make as much progress as possible with our learning given the circumstances. Please take this seriously, because this contingency instruction will count toward your grade no matter how long we are unable to meet in person.
Finally, please take all precautions to protect your family, particularly older relatives, during this time. Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently, and encourage your elderly family members to stay out of public spaces and get plenty of rest. Eat well and try to get eight hours of sleep per night. I care about you all!
