• Welcome to 2019-2020 school year!

Course Description: Students will engage with print, visual, and auditory to increase acquisition of content, fluency, and vocabulary and the ability to write for a variety of purposes and audiences; thereby preparing students to meet and/or exceed the New Jersey Student Learning Standards en route to being college and career ready.

     Required Materials

    • 1 one-subject notebook
    • 1 plastic two-pocket folder
    • 2 packets of sticky notes
    • Blue or black pens
    • 1 highlighter

Reading Plus: Students must complete five (5) Reading Lessons each week. The total comprehension score from these lessons will be logged in Genesis as a homework grade. Please note: students will have time to work on these lessons in class; however, if they do not complete five lessons during this time, they must complete the lessons outside of class before the end of the week.

Independent Reading: Per school-wide expectations, students will read two (2) choice texts each month and log their progress on Reading Rewards during designated independent reading times in class. These are books that students choose to read based on interest and can include any text from graphic novels and magazines to classical literature. Students are welcome to bring in books from home, borrow a book from my classroom library, or borrow a text from the Orange Prep library located on the 2nd floor.

Tardiness: Students are expected to arrive to class on time. If a student arrives late, he/she must bring a signed pass from a teacher, administrator, or other staff member. If you are late more than three (3) times without a pass during a marking period, you will receive a detention.

*Cell phones are NOT permitted in the classroom per school policy. Please keep it in your locker, bag, or pocket. If I see a phone, I will confiscate it. You are responsible for your learning! Limit distractions!*

    Grading Policy (per district standards)

    Grading Weights

Late Work/Absences: Late work will not be accepted more than three (3) days beyond the deadline. For every day an assignment is late, 10% will be decreased from the grade the student earns. For example, if I student earns an 85% on a project that is submitted two days late (-20%), his/her final grade would be a 65%. There are no exceptions to this policy unless the student communicates an extenuating circumstance that requires a deadline extension PRIOR to the due date. Students are responsible for communicating with me, their peers, and checking Google Classroom when they are absent to retrieve missed work.

Extra Help: I am available for extra help by appointment either before or after school. Please see me during the school day or send me an email to schedule an appointment.
